KAEDCO Expresses Disapproval of Police Officer in Viral Video Assaulting Staff Member

Condemnation has been expressed by the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) regarding the behavior exhibited by a police officer, as depicted in a widely circulated video, where he assaulted a KAEDCO staff member.

The incident involved Inspector Aminu Yahaya Bidda, who is stationed at the Tudun Wada Police Station in Kaduna. He was seen brandishing a knife in the video and making an attempt to harm the KAEDCO officials.

Formally, Kaduna Electric reported the occurrence to the state police command through a petition that was addressed to the police commissioner.

In the petition, there was a demand for Inspector Bidda’s immediate arrest, as well as a thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution for charges such as assault, attempted murder, harassment, and intimidation of KAEDCO staff.

The company specifically called for the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a comprehensive inquiry, and urged the police commissioner to ensure the safety of its staff so they can carry out their duties without hindrance.

A statement was released by Abdulazeez Abdullahi, the Head of Corporate Communications at KAEDCO, in which the company spoke out against the officer’s conduct, labeling it not only illegal but also a potential menace to the delicate peace in the state.

Abdullahi stressed that the actions of the officer were a clear violation of legal standards and police protocol, and a commitment was made to submit petitions to the appropriate authorities for administrative consequences and legal proceedings.

The company highlighted that Inspector Bidda aggressively attacked KAEDCO personnel who were simply conducting a routine inspection of his prepaid meter at his residence on Rimaye Road, Hayin Danmani.

Further investigation revealed that the officer had carried out electricity top-ups only twice this year.
