Jigawa Governor Revokes Suspension of Commissioner Involved in Ramadan Feeding Program

Following the recent State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Umar Namadi, the Jigawa State Government has granted approval for the reinstatement of Aminu Kanta, the suspended Commissioner for Commerce and Industries.

Sagir Musa Ahmed, the Commissioner of Information, Youth, Sport, and Culture, confirmed this decision while addressing reporters regarding the meeting’s outcomes.

It was reported that the Jigawa State governor had suspended the Commissioner for Commerce on allegations of misappropriating funds meant for the Ramadan feeding program in Babura Local Government. A committee was subsequently established to investigate these claims.

According to Ahmed, “The council extensively reviewed the committee’s findings, which primarily focused on discrepancies in the menu quantities for the Babura LGA feeding program, contrary to the council’s initial approval. The committee’s investigation concluded that the issue with the Babura feeding program arose from the contractor’s faulty judgment.”

He further elaborated that the committee discovered the primary food vendor was disbursing funds per ward instead of per center, resulting in a 50% reduction in daily feeding costs per center.

Furthermore, inadequate supervision of the program by the suspended commissioner was identified as a key factor in the delayed detection of these issues.

Ahmed added that the unutilized balance of 50% from the vendor was retrieved and returned to the state’s coffers. The council subsequently recommended the commissioner’s suspension be lifted, and all council members unanimously agreed to reinstate him to his position.
