Ex-Imo Governor, Ihedioha Makes the Right Call by Resigning from PDP

Emeka Ihedioha, the former governor of Imo State, has officially stepped down from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In acknowledging that this was a tough choice, Ihedioha is convinced that it is indeed the correct one.

He pointed out a disconnect between his personal convictions and the current direction of the party.

The letter of resignation was directed to the chairman of his constituency, Mbutu Ward, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area in Imo State.

Despite withdrawing from the party, Ihedioha affirmed his commitment to promoting democracy and good governance in Nigeria.

Having been a member of the PDP since its establishment in 1998, Ihedioha emphasized his role in fostering the party’s growth and evolution, acknowledging its historical dedication to internal restructuring and providing trustworthy leadership regardless of being in power or not.

Nonetheless, Ihedioha expressed disappointment in recent party developments, suggesting a departure from its fundamental principles. He raised concerns about the party’s failure to implement reforms, adhere to its own guidelines, and effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The statement in the letter reads as follows, “Since 1998, I have played a part in the advancement and transformation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a founding member.

“Throughout these years, I have taken pride in the ideology that the PDP consistently looks inwards for self-improvement and offers reliable leadership for the people, whether in power or not. I have had the privilege of serving and benefiting from the party at various levels.

“However, unfortunately, the party has recently taken a different path conflicting with my personal values. Despite my efforts to provide guidance, the party, regrettably, has struggled to implement internal reforms, enforce its regulations, or present a solid opposition against the ruling All Progressives Congress.”

“It is due to these circumstances that I feel compelled to tender my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party effective immediately. While it was a challenging decision, I am firm in my belief that it is the right one.”

“Even after stepping down, I am committed to contributing towards the enhancement of democracy and good governance in Nigeria.”
