Italy Surpasses China in Number of Coronavirus Deaths

Italy has now exceeded China in the number of deaths related to the coronavirus. The death toll increased by 427 in the last 24 hours, reaching 3,405.

 

The number of confirmed deaths on Wednesday was 2,978. Italy recorded 475 deaths from COVID-19, and an additional 427 deaths on Thursday brought the total death toll in Italy to 3,405.

 

In China, a total of 3,245 people have died since the virus first emerged late last year. However, Italy has a far lower number of confirmed cases – 41,035 as of Thursday, compared to 80,907 in China.

 

Globally, nearly 220,000 people have been confirmed to have the coronavirus. At least 84,000 have recovered from COVID-19, while the death toll exceeds 8,800, according to data from Johns Hopkins University in the US.
