Italian Football Club Sampdoria Reports Four Positive COVID-19 Cases Among Players

Italy’s Sampdoria football club has confirmed that four of its players, including one who had previously recovered, have tested positive for Coronavirus.

 

A statement released by Sampdoria indicated, ‘Four Sampdoria players have tested positive for coronavirus with one of them testing positive for the illness for a second time.

 

‘Currently asymptomatic, they have been quarantined and will be constantly monitored according to the protocol’.

 

Five Sampdoria players, Manolo Gabbiadini, Morten Thorsby, Albin Ekdal, Omar Colley, and Antonino La Gumina, as well as team doctor Amedeo Baldari had tested positive in March.

 

The government announced on Thursday that it was still reviewing the medical guidelines of the Italian football federation before considering the resumption of the season.

 

Teams have already been permitted to commence individual training sessions this week while adhering to social distancing protocols.

 

According to Eurosport, full team practices are scheduled to begin on May 18, subject to approval of the medical protocol.
