Israel’s Conflict Will Cease with Benjamin Netanyahu’s Removal, says Former Close Ally Eyal Megged

Eyal Megged, a writer and poet, has expressed his belief that putting an end to the war involving Israel is contingent on the overthrow of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In a recent piece in Haaretz, the once close friend of Netanyahu conveyed his profound sense of shame at the Prime Minister’s apparent lack of remorse, going as far as branding him a “tyrant.”

Megged accused Netanyahu of being willing to sacrifice anything, even at the expense of the Israeli public, as long as his grip on power remains intact. He asserted that as long as Netanyahu remains in office, there is little prospect of the conflict coming to a close any time soon.

According to Megged, the only way to bring an end to the war is through the removal of Netanyahu from office. He cautioned against harboring hopes that democratic processes alone would lead to a change in leadership, especially for those staunchly supportive of Netanyahu.

He emphasized that decisions are being made not in the interest of the citizens but solely for Netanyahu’s personal gain, leading to a swift and destructive unraveling. Megged urged for urgent action to prevent the irreversible damage being caused.

Israel finds itself embroiled in a confrontation with Iran following an incident involving an attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, on April 1.

In retaliation, Iran launched over 300 drones and missiles towards Israel, which were successfully intercepted. However, reports emerged of explosions in Iran’s Isfahan province reportedly caused by Israeli missiles.

Despite speculation connecting Israel to the attack, the Israeli military has not yet claimed responsibility for the incident.
