Islamic cleric warns against alleged plan to depose Sultan of Sokoto, citing potential harm

In Zamfara State, Babangida Ahmad, an Islamic cleric, has dismissed the purported plan by Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, to depose the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, as mere childish behavior.

He emphasized that the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), led by its National leader, Professor Isiak Akintola, had previously cautioned against such actions to safeguard the reputation of the Muslim community in Nigeria.

Ahmad expressed his belief that any initiative supporting the ousting of the Sultan of Sokoto is unwelcome and could negatively impact the Islamic community within the nation.

He observed that MURIC is actively monitoring the developments in the Kano emirate and called upon the northern elites to intervene in the matter to ensure peace prevails.

Ahmad argued that removing the Sultan of Sokoto would do more harm than good to the Islamic community in Nigeria.
