Instagram to start labelling photoshopped images with “False Information” warning

The news has surfaced that Instagram is planning to introduce a new feature where images that have undergone photo manipulation will be identified as “false information.”

The popular photo-sharing platform will rely on a mix of feedback from its community and advanced technology to verify the authenticity of images. If an image is suspected to have been altered, it will be sent to third-party independent fact-checkers. If they confirm any alterations, a “False Information” warning will be affixed to the post.

According to a Facebook spokesperson, the labeled content will not be completely concealed but will be marked once a fact-checker has evaluated it. The spokesperson emphasized that modified images will not be deleted but will be concealed from Instagram’s Explore and Hashtag pages, and they will also be automatically flagged in future posts.
