In the aftermath of the Super Eagles’ victory over Bafana Bafana in the semi-final clash, former South Africa captain Dean Furman highlighted Victor Osimhen as the likely ‘star man’ for Nigeria in the upcoming final against Cote d’Ivoire at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
Despite Osimhen’s failure to find the back of the net against Hugo Broos’ side, he has managed to score only one goal in the AFCON so far.
Furman expressed, “First half [against South Africa], he [Osimhen] was quiet; second half, he came alive, did fantastically to win that penalty, and going into this final, they would need him to be on his A-game.” He added, “Technically, he is just getting under the ball; for a player of his quality, you expect him to be on five, six or seven goals already by this stage of the tournament, and I would not write him off of being the star man of the final.”
