Insights from Party Official, Okafor, on LP Crisis Triggers by Abure and NLC

A party senior, Mr. Callistus Uju Okafor from Labour Party, LP, has highlighted Barr Julius Abure, the national chairman of the party, and the Nigeria Labour Congress leadership as the prime causes behind the ongoing crisis within the party.

In a recent interview with the press, Okafor, who previously served as the Deputy National Chairman of the party under the leadership of late A.A Salaam, expressed his views on the matter.

Stating, he remarked, “The crisis within our party can be attributed to the conduct of the Nigeria Labour Congress leadership and the Abure faction.

He continued, “Despite efforts by us and other stakeholders to advocate for a sincere and all-encompassing reconciliation process within the party, certain individuals have shown little interest in attaining peace.

“The exclusion of stakeholders like myself, Lamidi Apapa, and groups such as the Trade Union Congress (TUC) from crucial meetings aimed at addressing these issues, raises doubts about the effectiveness of such gatherings in ensuring lasting peace and advancement of the party in the future.

“In our quest to prioritize the interests of the Labour Party over personal gains, I and my supporters have been committed to making necessary sacrifices for the greater good of the party, an organization where many of us have invested significant resources and time.”

Expressing disappointment, he noted, “Regrettably, our efforts have not been reciprocated by certain factions who have chosen to engage in exclusionary politics.

“For instance, Abure’s deceptive ascension to the position of National Chairman and the subsequent organization of a questionable convention that defied court orders for a broader convention, showcases the lengths to which some are willing to manipulate the internal processes of the party. Fortunately, the charade they labeled as a convention did not escape the scrutiny of INEC,” Okafor emphasized.
