Insights from Goodluck Jonathan on Participating in the 2023 Presidential Election

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has addressed the rumors about pressure for him to contest in the 2023 Presidential election.

In a statement issued through his spokesperson Ikechukwu Eze, the former President emphasized his commitment to advancing peace and sustainable democracy in Africa.

Jonathan expressed surprise at the resurgence of these reports, which had circulated before the 2019 Presidential elections, in 2020.

He clarified,

“There is no truth to these claims. The former President has not made any comments or spoken to anyone about the upcoming elections. He is fully dedicated to his foundation, The Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF), and its mission of promoting peace, sustainable democracy, and youth empowerment in Africa.”

“If you search online, you will find that a similar story with the same headline had previously been published by unreliable online sources. This narrative resurfaced before the 2019 Presidential elections and has now reappeared again.”

“The positive aspect is that Nigerians are well aware that this is false. This is why Nigerian newspapers and credible online news outlets do not entertain such misinformation.”
