Insecurity: Resign now or be sacked by President Buhari- House of Representatives tell Service chiefs

The House of Representatives has delivered a stern ultimatum to the service chiefs, demanding their immediate resignation or warning of imminent dismissal by President Buhari. This decision was reached during today’s plenary session in Abuja, with the lawmakers expressing a lack of confidence in the current leadership.

In addressing the escalating insecurity in the country, member of the House, Abubakar Fulata, emphasized that the service chiefs have become ineffective in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges. He stressed the need for a change in strategy to yield different results.

Following the deliberations, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, presented the question to the lawmakers regarding the fate of the service chiefs. Despite differing opinions among the members, the majority voted in favor of the chiefs’ resignation or removal from office.

The service chiefs in question are General Gabriel Olonisakin, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, and Air Marshall Sadiq Abubakar, who were appointed in July 2015. The resolution passed by the House of Representatives signals a significant development in the ongoing debate about the country’s approach to national security.
