Suspension of Academic Activities at Plateau University Due to Insecurity

In response to the tragic killing of a second-year student at Plateau University, Bokkos, the management has made the difficult decision to suspend academic activities for a period of 10 days.

Expressing this decision was Mr. Yakubu Ayuba, the Registrar of the university, in a statement released on Saturday in Jos.

On Thursday night, gunmen carried out an attack on Chikam, a neighboring community of the university, resulting in the death of a student named Dading Jordan.

Prior to this, the university had already declared a two-day mourning period in honor of the deceased student.

“Due to the unfortunate incident that took place in Plateau University, Bokkos, and its surrounding areas, the management has decided to close the university for 10 days starting from Friday, April 19,” Ayuba announced.

This temporary closure aims to allow for an enhancement in the security situation and reduce the potential risks to the university community.

As a result, the ongoing first-semester examinations have been halted and will recommence on Thursday, May 2,” he added.

To assist students who may be stranded, buses have been arranged to transport them from the university to Barkin Ladi.
