INEC relocates Kogi election materials to Abuja due to attacks

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken the materials used for the Kogi State governorship election, scheduled for November 11, from its office in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, to Abuja.

Following the order of INEC’s chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, the election materials were transported in no fewer than four trucks on Friday afternoon, heavily guarded, as they headed to the Federal Capital Territory.

Election results, BVAS, and other sensitive documents utilized in the election were among the materials moved to Abuja.

A source confirmed the development to Daily Trust: “The materials used in prosecuting the November 11 governorship election are no longer safe here (in Kogi) because of incessant attacks on INEC officials, offices, and tribunal members by thugs sponsored by unknown politicians. Therefore, the commission ordered the removal of the materials to a safe place.”

This action follows the relocation of the Kogi election tribunal to the National Judicial Council complex in Jabi, Abuja, due to security threats in Lokoja.
