INEC Moves Polling Units Away from Politicians’ Houses and Palaces in Osun Election

Relocation of polling units from areas in front of palaces, politicians’ houses, religious centers and other controversial locations has been carried out by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Osun state.

Professor Abdulganiy Raji, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Osun, revealed this information during a stakeholders’ meeting organized by INEC in Osogbo, the state capital, on Tuesday, July 12.

Raji emphasized that the movement of polling units to open spaces and public buildings was aimed at ensuring adequate security and peaceful elections. Strategies have been developed to address issues that could disrupt the election process in identified flashpoints.

Raji also mentioned the conversion of voting points to polling units to expand voter access to polling units.

Furthermore, he confirmed that all non-sensitive materials for the election have been batched to the polling unit level and are ready to be conveyed to the various Registration Area Centres (RACs). INEC has also completed the production of electronic and hardcopy maps of all polling units in the state to facilitate the movement and location of polling units by electoral officials.

Raji concluded by stating that poll officials have been adequately prepared and are ready for deployment.
