Indian Authorities Detain Nigerian Man for One Year Without Bail on Five Drug Peddling Cases

In a historic move, the Bengaluru City Police have applied the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, which allows for one-year detention without bail, to a suspected Nigerian drug peddler.

The individual in question, Makuko Chukwuka Mauolokwu, also known as Henry and aged 31, has been implicated in at least five drug peddling cases, as announced by Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) on Tuesday, March 17.

Henry, who originally arrived in India on a student visa, has allegedly been involved in the peddling of cocaine, methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), commonly known as ecstasy, cannabis, and other narcotics. Despite the expiration of his visa, he remained in India, residing in Kammanahalli.

Patil further highlighted that Mauolokwu repeatedly obtained bail after each arrest only to resume drug peddling activities.

The city’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) has expressed its intent to enforce strict measures against drug peddlers, in line with its statement.
