Incident in Katsina: Protesters Damage NSCDC Vehicle and Public Property

A group of young individuals in Katsina city took to the streets to express their discontent with the prevailing economic challenges by setting a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps vehicle on fire.

They also engaged in vandalising public assets estimated to be worth millions of Naira.

According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria, after the initial demonstration by a group known as “Struggle for Good Governance,” the youths moved through various city streets.

Buhari Hamisu, the spokesperson for the NSCDC Command in Katsina, explained that their vehicle encountered a mechanical issue during patrol and was left immobilized on the road.

As per Hamisu, upon the arrival of the protesters in the vicinity, they set the vehicle ablaze and quickly departed.

The demonstrators then rampaged, causing further destruction to public infrastructure, particularly by dismantling street lights, their wiring, and other components.

Additionally, they caused damage to drainage systems and culverts across various parts of the city.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Faruq Jobe, the acting Governor of Katsina State, acknowledged that although protests had occurred peacefully in the state, there were reports of violent incidents in other states.

The acting governor made these remarks during a media address in Katsina on Thursday concerning the nationwide protests against hunger in the state.

He expressed satisfaction that the protests in Katsina did not escalate into violence, crediting this to the government’s commitment and dialogue with relevant stakeholders.

Furthermore, Jobe urged parents to guide their children to avoid engaging in any violent activities in the state.

He praised the conduct of the state’s residents for maintaining orderliness and encouraged them to continue doing so.

Jobe noted that the day coincided with the annual observance of prayers for peace and development in the state.

He appealed to the public to intensify prayers for peaceful coexistence within the state and the nation at large.
