In Ondo, Banks, Government Hospitals, Others Closed Amid Strike

Responding to the industrial action initiated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) demanding a new minimum wage, banks, government-owned hospitals, and courts in Ondo State ceased operations on Monday.

State ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) remained shut, and the Alagbaka area, where government offices are located, showed no sign of civil servants.

Similarly, the Federal Secretariat on Igbatoro Road wore a deserted look as the strike took effect.

Addressing the situation, Victor Amoko, the Ondo State NLC chairman, observed that both public and private sectors in the state were effectively paralyzed by the strike.

He stated, “Reports indicate that affiliated unions are actively participating in the strike. The closure of all schools indicates significant progress. Many public and private offices are closed, and work activities are halted.”

TUC chairman in the state, Clement Fatuase, noted the encouraging compliance levels in both sectors and called for unity among members to advocate for better worker conditions.

Regarding discussions with the state government, Fatuase clarified that exemptions for WAEC and INEC officials were not compromises but considerations to allow them to complete their tasks as per the proposed schedule.
