Impersonation of Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps operative leads to man’s arrest

An individual, Mevo Alex Sunday, aged 35, was apprehended by members of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps for posing as one of their operatives.

The Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency disclosed this information via its official website on Wednesday.

As outlined in the agency’s statement, Sunday confessed to acquiring the uniform from a certain LNSA officer named Mr. Femi for N25,000 back in November last year.

He alleged that Mr. Femi had assured him of a job within the Neighbourhood Corps in exchange for the payment.

The agency’s statement read, ” Mevo Alex Sunday, a 35-year-old male residing at No 1, Shillon Street, Ilupeju, Lagos, was apprehended by Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps Officers at Badagry Roundabout for impersonating an agency operative.

“Following an investigation and interrogation at the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency Command office in Badagry, Mevo alleged that the uniform discovered on him was sold by an unidentified LNSA officer, Mr. Femi, whom he had encountered at Odi-Olowo LCDA Command.

“He asserted that Mr. Femi had promised to assist him in securing employment with the Neighbourhood Corp after accepting N25,000, and a week later, he was provided with a complete uniform.

Ifalade Oyekan, the General Manager of LNSA, issued a cautionary message to the public regarding individuals impersonating agency officers.

He stressed the agency’s firm stance against impersonation and dedication to delivering exceptional service.

“The Governor expects nothing but exceptional service from the Agency and will not tolerate any form of misconduct. We are vigilant in safeguarding the safety and security of Lagos residents,” he added.

The suspect has been transferred to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at the Nigerian Police Headquarters in Badagry for further investigation.

The agency has pledged to enhance efforts in identifying and apprehending Mr. Femi, the alleged mastermind behind the impersonation scheme.
