Imo State Experiences Total Lockdown During Biafra Day Observance

Despite assurances of adequate security by the police, Imo State faced a complete lockdown as residents honored the sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in commemoration of the May 30 Biafra Day.

Various government institutions remained closed, with schools, shops, and other public outlets shuttered for the day.

During a visit to government establishments, a noticeable absence of activity was observed, except for security personnel patrolling the premises.

Notable locations like the State Secretariat, House Of Assembly Complex, the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Extension of the State Secretariat, and Government House Roundabout were deserted.

In Owerri, the state capital, youths were observed playing football on major roads, while limited movement of people and vehicles was noted.

Prior to the observance, the State Police Command had encouraged residents to disregard the sit-at-home order and continue with their lawful activities, emphasizing the readiness of security agencies to uphold law and order.
