Imo Assembly suspends 4 members over alleged plot to impeach Speaker

The Imo State House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended four lawmakers over an alleged plot to remove the Speaker, Chike Olemgbe.

The four lawmakers suspended include Chidiebere Ogbunikpa, Okigwe; Samuel Otuibe, Ahiazu Mbaise; Henry Agbasonu, Ezinihitte Mbaise; and Dominic Ezirioha, Oru West.

The suspension of the lawmakers did not come as a motion but was announced on the floor of the House by the Speaker, who revealed that the quartet were suspended for inciting other members and scheming for his impeachment, an act he termed as an “unparliamentary conduct”.

Efforts to reach the suspended lawmakers proved unsuccessful as calls to their numbers did not go through.

Before the development, there were reports that some lawmakers are plotting to impeach the Speaker over alleged incompetence in handling the affairs of the House.
