Illegal Alcohol Factory in Lagos Raided by NAFDAC, Goods Worth N200m Seized

Following a recent raid on an illegal alcohol production facility in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control apprehended three suspects.

Acting on credible intelligence, NAFDAC enforcement officers conducted the raid, uncovering makeshift factories used for the production of various alcoholic beverages in packing stores and rooms at the Oke-Arin market.

The discovery revealed that the packing stores and rooms in Oke-Arin market had been repurposed as makeshift factories for the production, packaging, and distribution of different brands of alcoholic drinks in the open market.

During the raid, NAFDAC seized over 2,000 cartons of empty bottles and pre-packaged drinks, as well as a mini plastic mixing tank, an improvised filter, and various packaging materials.

Three suspects were taken into custody in connection with the illicit operation.

NAFDAC estimated the total value of the confiscated goods seized during the operation to be N200 million.

The agency advised consumers to exercise caution, particularly when purchasing alcoholic beverages.

“Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be prosecuted upon conclusion,” the statement emphasized.

According to a PUNCH Online report in July, NAFDAC seized over N20 million worth of substandard, falsified, and banned products in an operation targeting key markets in Sokoto State.
