It has been cautioned by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC that the people of Nigeria should refrain from drinking bleach as a treatment for COVID-19.

This warning has been issued shortly after William Bryan, the acting head of the US Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate, presented research results indicating that Coronavirus seemed to weaken more quickly when exposed to sunlight and heat. The study also suggested that bleach could eliminate the virus in saliva or respiratory fluids within five minutes, while isopropyl alcohol was even quicker.

On its Twitter handle, the NCDC posted a warning to Nigerians, advising them against ingesting bleach as Nigeria continues its battle against the Coronavirus pandemic. The agency emphasized that consuming bleach exposes an individual to health risks and even death.
