I raped 70-year-old woman under the influence of alcohol – Suspect confesses

The 25-year-old suspect, Wasiu Bankole, has been apprehended by the Ogun state police command for assaulting a 70-year-old woman in her residence in the Abule Lemode area of Ijoko around 8pm on June 2. The victim reported the incident to the Agbado police division, which led to the arrest of the suspect.

According to the police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the woman reported that Bankole forcefully entered her room, restrained her, and raped her against her will. Upon hearing her cries, the neighbors intervened and beat the suspect with a stick, prompting him to flee the scene and leave his belongings behind.

Oyeyemi stated that the suspect confessed to the crime, attributing it to alcohol influence. Following the report, the DPO Agbado division, SP Kuranga Yero, dispatched detectives to locate and apprehend the suspect. Bankole was arrested within 24 hours and taken into custody for further investigation and prosecution.

The police have transferred the suspect to the anti-human trafficking and child labor unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Abeokuta, as ordered by the commissioner of police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson. The victim has been taken to the hospital for medical attention.
