The federal government’s Social Intervention Programme, including the Conditional Cash Transfer programme to poor households, has come under scrutiny by national assembly leaders. During a meeting with the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila expressed concerns about the effectiveness of the scheme. The leaders emphasized the need for reform to ensure the program reaches the poorest of the poor. Lawan highlighted the challenges faced by those who lack access to technology and banking services, while Gbajabiamila questioned the parameters used to identify beneficiaries. The Minister, Sadiya Farouq, acknowledged the need for legal backing to the program, which has received over N2 trillion in funding since its establishment in 2016.
