House of Representatives to Scrutinize N6.2tn Supplementary Budget – Statement by Reps Spokesman

President Bola Tinubu submitted the N6.2tn 2024 supplementary budget to the National Assembly on Wednesday. According to Deputy Spokesman, Philip Agbese, lawmakers will thoroughly review the budget.

During an interview in Abuja on Friday, Agbese emphasized the parliament’s commitment to scrutinizing the supplementary budget extensively.

The supplementary budget aims to fund critical infrastructure projects in areas such as education, healthcare, and public welfare for the benefit of Nigerians.

Agbese mentioned, “The 2024 supplementary budget of ₦6.2tn is split into two primary components: ₦3.2tn allocated to essential infrastructure projects and ₦3tn for recurrent expenditure to support the functioning of the Federal Government.

He further stated, “We will meticulously analyze the budget proposal to ensure that every kobo is effectively utilized for the best interest of our constituents.”

Representing Ado/Ogbadigbo/Okokwu Federal Constituency of Benue State, Agbese assured that the legislative body will interact with stakeholders, hold public hearings, and thoroughly review the executive bill to ensure it aligns with the welfare of Nigerians.

“Transparency and accountability are non-negotiable for us. We will dedicate the necessary time to ensure a well-crafted budget that benefits all Nigerians,” he affirmed.

He also expressed confidence in the collaboration with the Senate, highlighting the importance of working together to pass the supplementary budget efficiently.

“Collectively, we will ensure the budget undergoes rigorous scrutiny and oversight before approval,” he concluded.
