Former US Secretary of State and former First Lady Hillary Clinton insisted this Thursday that she never personally met Jeffrey Epstein or had any type of connection or communication with him, and criticized her questioning today before a Congressional committee for being “repetitive and unproductive.”
“I never met Jeffrey Epstein,” Clinton reiterated in statements to the press after her appearance before Congress from Chappaqua (New York), a town where she lives with her husband, former President Bill Clinton (1993-2001), who plans to testify tomorrow before the same committee.
He also expressed frustration after several hours of testimony and noted that the hearing, which was held behind closed doors at the committee’s request, was temporarily interrupted because “one of the members violated that rule.” The session was paused after a photo of the session, supposedly taken by Republican Lauren Boebert, was leaked.
“The leak of the photograph is very disturbing, because it suggests that they could violate other agreements,” he said.
Regarding the interrogation, he said the questions were asked “repetitively, literally over and over again.”
“I don’t know how many times I had to say that I don’t know Jeffrey Epstein. I never went to his island, nor to his house, nor to his offices,” he said.
Previously, Hillary Clinton had accused the Republican-controlled committee of having subpoenaed her to distract attention and cover up the activities of US President Donald Trump over her alleged connection to Epstein.
Hillary Clinton admitted to having met Epstein’s accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell at Clinton Foundation events on some occasions, but reiterated that she did not know Epstein personally.
For his part, Bill Clinton acknowledged having taken several trips in the early 2000s on Epstein’s private plane for philanthropic reasons, but denied knowledge of the magnate’s crimes.
Both accepted the appearance after the threat of being accused of contempt and requested that their testimony be made public, arguing that they have nothing to hide.
The former secretary stressed today that she had no idea about the criminal activities of the financial sex offender, who died in prison in 2019. “Like any decent person, I was horrified when I learned of his crimes,” she said.
