In a recent social media post, a young Nigerian woman shared her thoughts on how a girl can gauge her boyfriend’s love. Twitter user @RemelRossco cautioned women about dating someone who neglects to celebrate their birthday.
According to her, if a man fails to organize a birthday party or purchase gifts for his girlfriend, it signals a lack of love.
Remel tweeted, “If you’re dating a guy and he does nothing for your birthday, he’s not that into you. Plain and simple, and idc for the excuses.”

There was a related incident where a Nigerian man discovered his girlfriend was involved with someone else on her birthday. He had planned a romantic surprise for her, only to find out that another man, known as Senator, had already beaten him to it. The man ended the relationship on the spot, despite pleas for forgiveness.
This heartbreaking situation unfolded on Tuesday, August 16, in Owerri, Imo State, where a trumpeter sent by the other man was serenading her at the same time that the heartbroken man and his friends arrived with their birthday gift.
According to a source familiar with the case, “Chris is my friend and we planned a birthday surprise package – ‘panran ran’ and other gifts – for his girlfriend of five months, Jennifer. We got to her location only to see another birthday surprise from another man she calls Senator who is believed to be a pastor. We learned that Jennifer and this pastor have been dating for over three years.”
Chris decided to end their relationship on the spot, refusing her plea for forgiveness.
