Even after authorities arrived at the scene, a puppy named Guardian remained by his deceased sister’s side on a road, refusing to leave her alone.
Guardian’s sister was tragically found dead on a road in Texas, USA. Despite the heartbreaking sight, the Catahoula mix dog continued to stand guard, displaying unwavering loyalty and love for his fallen sibling when officials from Kingsville-Kleberg Health Department Animal Control & Care Center came to assist.
According to witnesses, the American dog growled at the animal control officer when he tried to place his paw on top of his sister.
Photographs captured by the officers depict Guardian’s protective stance as they attempted to approach the pair.
Sharing the emotional account on Facebook, the Kingsville-Kleberg Health Department Animal Control & Care Center wrote: ‘This boy wasn’t going to let anyone mess with his sister. Our ACOs had a hard time convincing him everything was going to be alright and they were there to help him.’
The statement continued: ‘This call was one of the most heart-wrenching for our staff, but we thought we’d share some behind-the-scenes images of situations they are faced with on a regular basis. He will be held on stray hold for the required 4 days. We have already scheduled an adoption at 8 am on the day he becomes available (May 29)’
After the incident, they explained: ‘He’s still a little confused about what happened, but at least he is now in a safe place with fresh, cool water and a belly full of food.’
