Despite being the defending champions, Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets were dethroned by Cote d’Ivoire with a 1-0 defeat in their semi-final clash at the WAFU B U-17 Championship.
The decisive goal was netted by Youbah Coulibaly for the Baby Elephants in the 54th minute of the match.
Unfortunately, the Eaglets were unable to mount a comeback and find an equalizer.
In addition to missing out on a spot in the final, Manu Garba’s team also fell short of securing a place in the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
They are now set to challenge the host nation Ghana for the third-place position in the tournament on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Cote d’Ivoire will face Burkina Faso in the championship final scheduled for the same day.
