Gunshots fired as Minna residents protest over hardship

Residents of Minna staged a protest over the increasing hardship, leading to the firing of gunshots by the Police to disperse the crowd. The protest, which occurred on Monday, Feb. 5, saw a group of women blocking the Minna-Bida Road at the Kpakungu roundabout, to express their dissatisfaction with the skyrocketing cost of food items. Subsequently, they were joined by men, leading to a halt in vehicular movement. The police’s attempt to control the situation almost escalated into violence as the protesters demanded their departure, prompting the police to respond with several shots fired into the air.
