Gully Erosion Causes Fatality in Delta Community

In the Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, specifically at Alibuoba quarters, Agbor, gully erosion has tragically resulted in the loss of a life, the victim remains unidentified.

The lifeless body was discovered deep inside a gully that measured over 50 feet in depth and 30 feet in width, located along the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Road, next to Agbor Technical College on a Saturday.

Local residents were alerted to the incident by the noxious odor emanating from the gully, where the decomposing body of the victim was found.

In response to the situation, the Chairman of the Landlords/Landladies Association in the Area, Comrade Chukwuyem Odia, expressed that the erosion has become a significant challenge and threat to the residents, leading some to consider relocating from the area.

Appealing for assistance from relevant Government Agencies, Odia emphasized that the efforts made by the residents and landlords to address the erosion have been unsuccessful, as the issue has exceeded their capacity.

He recounted the association’s efforts to reach out to various authorities, including the Member representing Ika South Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, and the Member representing Ika Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Victor Nwokolo, but no action has been taken.
