Guinea-Bissau’s Prime Minister and 3 ministers diagnosed positive for COVID-19

The Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau, Nuno Nabiam, along with three other government ministers, has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Health Minister Antonio Deuna informed that the Prime Minister and the Ministers are currently in quarantine at a hotel in the country’s capital, Bissau.

According to Lusa, the other infected officials include Interior Minister Botche Cande, as well as two secretaries of state, Mario Fambe and Monica Buaro.

This development comes shortly after President Umaro Sissoco Embalo made a major purchase of COVID-organics (an organic concoction purported to cure virus-infected patients) from Madagascar.

Guinea-Bissau has recorded 73 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with one fatality and 18 recoveries, according to data from the US-based Johns Hopkins University. President Umaro Sissoco Embalo also extended the nationwide state of emergency due to the pandemic until May 11.

Nabiam finished third in last year’s presidential election and was appointed as prime minister by the eventual winner, President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, in late February.
