Group Backs Uzodimma’s Bid for Second Term

Imo Progressives Movement (IPM), a political organization, has expressed its endorsement for Governor Hope Uzodimma’s campaign for a second term, citing him as their only candidate.

During a press conference in Owerri over the weekend, Hon Eugene Dibiagwu, the group’s national convener and a representative for Oguta/Ohaji-Egbema/Oru West federal constituency, made the announcement while revealing their favored candidate.

Accompanied by other IPM members, Dibiagwu stated that Uzodimma was their top choice due to his exceptional qualities as the governor of Imo state.

He further revealed that the IPM structures in various units, communities, wards, local government areas, federal constituencies, senatorial districts, state, and even the diaspora, were developing in preparation for the upcoming state-wide inauguration. Dibiagwu called on the people of Imo to stand up and join this historic movement.

IPM urged both Imolites and advocates of the state to join their cause and actively contribute to solidifying good governance in Imo. They emphasized that IPM membership was inclusive of all political parties, clergy, and civil society organizations.

According to IPM, under Uzodimma’s leadership, Imo state has witnessed a significant decrease in maternal and infant mortality rates, making it one of the states in Nigeria with the lowest rates. They credited this achievement to the implementation of effective health policies by the government.

Another reason for their support is Uzodimma’s commitment to education, evident in the consistent positive results of Imo students in WAEC and JAMB for three consecutive years. IPM acknowledged that Uzodimma has prioritized education and implemented robust policies.

Furthermore, IPM commended Uzodimma for the construction of the Owerri-Orlu road, which has significantly enhanced socio-economic activities between Imo and Anambra states, providing tourism and commercial benefits. They also praised the development of the Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia road.

Dibiagwu pointed out that the Uzodimma-led government’s agricultural policy, particularly the provision of incentives and improved seedlings worth N5 billion, is a step towards fostering a new generation of successful young Imolites trained as “agriprenuers,” ensuring food security, and tackling unemployment.

Among their notable accomplishments, IPM highlighted the graduation of medical students at Imo State University after several years and the Skill-Up program aimed at nurturing tech leaders.

Dibiagwu emphasized that the movement has gathered thousands of patriotic Imo citizens and residents, forming a formidable political force to safeguard the progress achieved in the state over the past three years and seven months from any potential setbacks caused by regressive forces.

Other group executives present at the event included Chief Williams Ejiakor, Collins Opurozor, Greg Nwadike, Frank Nwaete, among others.
