Governor Otu Urges More Sacrifices from Medical Professionals

In a recent meeting with the Nigerian Medical Association delegation led by national president Dr. Uche Ojinmah, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State emphasized the need for all medical professionals to increase their level of sacrifices.

Governor Otu pointed out that making sacrifices in critical sectors is imperative for a nation to progress towards greatness, citing President Bola Tinubu’s difficult decisions as an example for bettering the country.

Highlighting the global competition for medical professionals and Nigeria’s existing shortage in the sector, Governor Otu lamented the departure of medical personnel to neighboring countries.

In response, Dr. Ojinmah echoed the call for more medical doctor recruitment in Cross River State’s health sector and advocated for the implementation of a new salary scale for medical doctors.

The NMA president praised the urban renewal efforts in the state, emphasizing the correlation between aesthetics, a clean environment, and good health. He commended the positive changes in Calabar and its surroundings, noting that aesthetics play a significant role in overall well-being.

Dr. Ojinmah also announced that a new leadership team for NMA would be determined post the annual conference in Calabar. He stressed the importance of sacrifices in nation-building and urged medical professionals to actively contribute to the development of Nigeria.
