Gombe State Governor, Yahaya, Reveals Establishment of Committee for New Minimum Wage

In a recent announcement, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State unveiled the formation of a standing committee tasked with overseeing the implementation of the recently approved national minimum wage.

This development was disclosed in a statement released by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli, following a visit to Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The decision to establish the committee was prompted by Governor Yahaya’s previous concerns expressed in July regarding the state’s capacity to meet the new N70,000 minimum wage standard.

Heading the committee is Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau, who is collaborating closely with labor unions to ensure the effective enforcement of the new wage legislation within the state.

Emphasizing the significance of strategic planning, the governor highlighted the need to manage the consequential adjustments associated with the wage increment.

“Having observed that most states have set up committees for this purpose, in Gombe, we have a standing committee led by the Deputy Governor working in tandem with labor unions to guarantee proper compliance,” Yahaya’s statement emphasized.

Yahaya further underscored that while the new minimum wage is a mandatory provision, its rollout demands a meticulous approach to promote fairness and sustainability statewide.
