The lifeless body of a 23-year-old man who had recently returned from Ghana was discovered in a hotel room located along the East-West Road axis of Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. Victor Benjamin, the deceased, had checked into room No: 414 of Wetland Hotel on Saturday, July 8, 2023, and was found on Sunday, the day he was expected to have checked out.
According to reports, the receptionist informed Benjamin’s friends that he had checked out of the hotel when they came looking for him. Unsatisfied with this response, they went to his room and found his lifeless body on the floor, subsequently raising the alarm.
Richard Kpedi Esq, a shareholder of the hotel, confirmed the incident, stating that the young man had checked in around 11-12 at night and was later found on the floor during the routine check-out time at about 1 pm. Benjamin’s relations, who were already on their way as he had recently arrived from Ghana, rushed him to the hospital in Ughelli where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
The Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, also confirmed the incident to the press. The hotel management has provided a statement under caution, and the next course of action is awaiting the autopsy report to determine the cause of death.
