Ghana records 271 new cases of Coronavirus a week after lifting lockdown

In Ghana, a total of 271 new cases of Coronavirus have been confirmed, which comes just a week after the lockdown in the country’s two largest cities, Accra and Kumasi, was lifted. Ghana Health Service (GHS) reported the new cases, bringing the total number of cases to 1,550, with an additional death from the disease. The death toll has now reached 11, while 155 individuals have recovered from the virus.

The data analysis by Ghana Health Service showed that 62 percent of the infected individuals in Ghana are male, while 38 percent are female. It also revealed that only 16 percent of the infected persons have a travel history, with the remaining 84 percent having no clear history of travel.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo lifted the three-week lockdown in Accra and Kumasi, citing improved coronavirus testing and the severe impact of the restrictions on the country’s vulnerable population. The President emphasized that lifting the lockdown did not mean the government was letting its guard down, as existing bans on public gatherings and school closures were still in effect. He urged Ghanaians to wear masks when going outside and to continue adhering to social distancing measures to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

The news of the new cases emerging just a week after the lockdown was lifted serves as a reminder of the ongoing threat posed by the virus and the importance of continued vigilance in adhering to safety measures.
