General Ozigi surrenders N426m to Nigerian government

An amount of N426.7 million traced to retired Brigadier-General John Onimisi Ozigi (rtd) has been ordered to be forfeited to the Nigerian government by a Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday, May 8.

The forfeiture was granted following a motion filed by Ekereuwem Anana, counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the case which also involves Diamond Head Ventures and Dev. Company Ltd as respondents.

Justice Muslim Hassan pointed out that the money linked to the retired Brigadier-General exceeded his monthly salary of N750,000.

The federal high court judge concluded that the respondents failed to provide substantial evidence to justify why the money suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities should not be surrendered to the government.

According to Justice Hassan;

“The application has met the conditions stipulated in Section 17 of the Advanced Fee Fraud and other related offences Act

“The application is meritorious and it is hereby granted as prayed.”
