General Election Scheduled for July 4th in the UK, According to British Prime Minister Sunak

Announcing the decision, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated that the country will be going to the polls for a general election on July 4th.

During a briefing at 10 Downing Street, Sunak shared, “I have had discussions with His Majesty the King to officially dissolve parliament. His Majesty has graciously approved the request, and thus, we are set for a general election on July 4th.”

This announcement by the Prime Minister follows the release of recent data indicating a notable drop in the country’s inflation rate to 2.3 per cent, marking its lowest level in almost three years.

The Conservative Party, in power for 14 years, views this development as a significant achievement.

Among the Prime Minister’s five pledges made in January 2023 was the objective of reducing inflation by half, considering it had exceeded 11 per cent towards the end of 2022.

Sunak expressed his views on the latest statistics, describing them as a “significant moment for the economy” and forecasting “brighter days ahead.”

Despite the long-standing Conservative rule, the party has encountered various hurdles in recent times, including sluggish economic expansion and political upheaval, evidenced by frequent changes in party leadership.

In the latest YouGov surveys, the Tory party trails behind its primary competitor, the Labour Party, as reported by NAN.
