Gateway International Airport Transforming into a Hub for Aircraft Maintenance and Flight Training School

An exciting development is on the horizon at the Gateway International Agro Cargo and Passenger Airport as plans are underway to establish an aircraft maintenance repair facility and a flight training school for aspiring pilots and auto engineers. This upcoming facility aims to eliminate the need for aircraft to travel abroad for routine maintenance, as these services will soon be available at the Gateway International Airport.

Gbolahan Abatan, the President of Air First Maintenance and Repair Facility, revealed this significant milestone during a press briefing following a meeting with Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun. Abatan expressed the company’s eagerness to collaborate with the state government to establish the Aircraft Maintenance Facility at the Agro Cargo Airport.

Initial plans for the facility include conducting aircraft assembling on-site. Abatan also highlighted the job opportunities that will be created for local residents and individuals from neighboring states once the company is fully operational. He commended Governor Abiodun for spearheading the development of a top-tier airport in the state, stating, “We had a productive meeting, and I am pleased that the Governor has pledged unwavering support to kickstart our initiatives.”

“With the necessary certification processes in place, we anticipate commencing our operations at the airport towards the end of June,” Abatan added. Additionally, the company aims to establish a flight training school to groom budding pilots and auto engineers. Plans are already in motion to procure suitable aircraft for training purposes and eventually assemble airplanes on-site, fostering employment opportunities for local residents and those from neighboring states.

Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, lauded the airport’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the country’s longest runway, and praised the advanced technology utilized for aircraft and airport management. Dairo commended Air First’s exceptional track record in aircraft maintenance and expressed the state’s delight in welcoming the prominent aircraft maintenance company to the airport.
