Fubara kicks as loyalists are arraigned over Assembly bombing

The arraignment of Governor Simi Fubara’s loyalists in relation to the bombing of the Rivers State Assembly complex on October 30, 2023, has been strongly opposed by the Rivers State Government. The individuals were presented before the Federal High Court in Abuja and subsequently remanded until February 2. Joseph Johnson, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, expressed dissatisfaction with the situation, emphasizing the need to follow due process in accordance with the law. He also hinted at the political motivations behind these events and assured that efforts would be made to secure bail for those affected. Meanwhile, the leader of the Rivers elders, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, questioned the decision to transfer the case to the Federal High Court, arguing that the crime was committed within the state and should therefore be tried there. The Rivers Assembly bombing occurred amidst a political upheaval involving lawmakers loyal to the previous governor, Nyesom Wike, attempting to impeach Fubara. The accused individuals, Chime Ezebalike, Lukman Oladele, Kenneth Kpasa, Osiga Donald, and Ochueja Thankgod, have been linked to the incidents.
