FRSC Expresses Concerns About Abundance Of Speed Bumps On Gombe-Yola Highway

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is troubled by the excessive presence of ‘unauthorized’ speed bumps along Gombe-Yola highway.

In a press release issued yesterday, Felix Theman, the sector commander of the FRSC in Gombe State, expressed his dissatisfaction.

He stated that these bumps not only pose a significant hazard to drivers but also result in premature damage to the road infrastructure, which incurs substantial expenses for the government.

He revealed that within a distance of 40 kilometers between Cham and Bambam communities along the highway, approximately 57 bumps have been erected without proper consideration. Furthermore, there are an additional 18 bumps along the Bambam to Kaltungo town route.

“Drivers consistently fail to adhere to the designated speed limits in populated areas, while communities continue to take matters into their own hands. Communities should refrain from this approach as it will not be productive and will ultimately result in the deterioration of the road, which is critical to the entire society,” he emphasized.

The commander advised communities to consult the federal controller of works, whose responsibility is to assess safety concerns and provide appropriate solutions for safer road conditions.

He also disclosed that during the recently celebrated Eid-el Kabir, seven individuals lost their lives and 20 sustained injuries in road accidents in Gombe State. He urged motorists to always adhere to traffic regulations.
