Partnership between Foundation and Firm Aims to Empower Teachers

An MoU has been signed between Illmi Children’s Fund and Peace Microfinance Bank, aiming to empower teachers in Nigeria.

In a statement by Maryam Augue-Abdulmumin, the Executive Director, the group announced that financial support will be provided to teachers through its Cooperative organization to enhance their performance in the education sector.

The program is aligned with the organization’s Training, Advocacy, Research, and Mentorship Initiative.

The statement highlighted, “Even though TARM’s primary aim is to empower female teachers in their work with adolescent girls, which involves mentorship and training in the prevention of Gender Based Violence (GBV) at home and school, the cooperative takes a more holistic approach to assist both male and female teachers in planning for a secure retirement.”

The program will also empower teacher members to retire to a future of ease. ICF is committed to social impact through empowerment and entrepreneurship, and seized the opportunity offered by this partnership to continue their impactful work.

Judith Onyishi, the Bank’s Managing Director, expressed that the initiative will significantly support the beneficiaries in planning for a secure future.

“We are providing teachers with access to financial tools and resources necessary for planning a secure future while enhancing their ability to continue their work wholeheartedly. We believe that teachers deserve a retirement plan that dignifies and instills hope.”

Last year, BIC conducted effective teaching skills training for teachers from over 100 Lagos schools through its Canvas of Change.

Additionally, Street to School Initiative, an organization led by US government exchange alumnae in collaboration with the US Consulate General, launched a teacher capacity-building workshop titled, ’Re-imagining EducationX 2021: The Teacher on the Move.”
