Former Super Falcons coach, Godwin Izilein, criticizes Super Eagles’ Alex Iwobi

In anticipation of Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final matchup against Angola on Friday, former Super Falcons coach, Godwin Izilein, has expressed his criticism of Super Eagles star, Alex Iwobi.

Izilein pointed out that the Fulham player has the tendency to lose possession easily and often becomes inactive when he is without the ball.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Calabar, Izilein also remarked that Jose Peseiro’s team has developed a better understanding among themselves.

“They now have a better understanding and play a more balanced game, both in attack and defense,” he noted. “Previously, they relied on individual actions. The players have now realized that they need to support each other, both in attack and defense.”

He added, “The only downside is Alex Iwobi’s inconsistent performance in this tournament. He tends to lose possession easily and doesn’t contribute defensively to cover for his teammates.

“Iwobi seems to only be active when he is in possession of the ball and becomes less involved when he’s not,” Izilein remarked.

Expressing his confidence, Izilein stated, “I am fully convinced that Nigeria will emerge victorious against Angola on Friday.”
