Former Arsenal defender Gallas speaks out against Arsenal’s potential signing of midfielder Mikel Merino

In a surprising turn of events, William Gallas has voiced his opposition to Arsenal’s rumored interest in 28-year-old midfielder Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.

Gallas believes that with Declan Rice already in their ranks, Arsenal should not pursue Merino for a transfer to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal has reportedly identified Merino as their top target for this summer, with recent reports suggesting that a deal may be close to completion.

However, Gallas insists that what Arsenal truly need is a new striker, not another midfielder like Merino.

Speaking to Genting Casino, the former French international stated, “Arsenal don’t need to sign Mikel Merino when they have Declan Rice who is more than capable of filling that role.”

He further added, “I believe Arsenal should focus their efforts on securing a new striker and perhaps a winger, rather than adding another midfielder to their squad.”
