The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has revealed a security outfit named “SHEGE KA FASA” to address the security challenges in the northern region of the country.
Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the spokesperson of the group, stated that the formation of the security outfit became essential due to the spread of insurgency from the North-East region in 2008 to other parts of the Northern region.
The group urged governors of all northern states to follow the example of their colleagues in the South-West and South-East regions in securing the lives of their states’ residents. They also mentioned that they will formalize the request by writing to political leaders in the region.
The group’s statement elaborates on the objectives of the Shege Ka Fasa outfit, emphasizing the need for the active involvement of all northern communities in addressing the security challenges in the region. They also expressed the intention to assist the Federal Government in restoring peace and security in northern Nigeria.
Additionally, the outfit is tasked with coordinating operations against the influx of hard drugs into the North and taking steps to neutralize all centers of gravity for the supply, manufacturing, and distribution of such drugs and other dangerous substances.
The security outfit is expected to coordinate vigilance to check and expose illegal arms trade, supply channels, and possession. It will also guard against the theft and illegal traffic in kids and other vulnerable sections of the northern population and expose operations of fraudsters.
