First FCT Minister, Ajose-Adeogun, Passes Away At 96


The initial Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun, has departed. He was 96 years old.

A member of the Ajose-Adeogun family, Oluremi Ajose-Adeogun, stated
Chief Ajose-Adeogun passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023.

An accomplished oil and gas professional, the deceased made an unforgettable impact in the real estate sector in Nigeria, being the mastermind and executor behind the original Master plan of the FCT, where he served as the inaugural minister.

Ajose-Adeogun had an illustrious career at Shell Petroleum Development Company and went on to become the Federal Commissioner for Cooperatives and Supply (August 1975) and, subsequently, the Commissioner for Special Duties at the Federal Capital Development Authority upon retirement.

In 1976, when the Federal Capital Territory was established, Chief Ajose-Adeogun assumed the role of the first Minister of the FCT.

He is survived by progeny, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
