Fire Engulfs 23 Shops in Kwara Market

Yesterday, on March 17, a fire outbreak at Owode market in Offa, Kwara State, destroyed about 23 shops and goods worth millions of Naira.

The fire, which began around 1 a.m., was contained by the timely arrival of firefighters, preventing it from spreading to other nearby shops and houses.

Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity at Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed that the incident was suspected to have been caused by an electric spark.

According to Adekunle, “The Fire Brigade’s quick intervention prevented a greater disaster. About 23 shops were affected due to a minor delay in reaching out to the Fire Brigade. The cause of the inferno was suspected to be an electric spark, although the state Fire Brigade’s intelligent team is still investigating to determine the actual cause of the fire outbreak.”
