Fire Breaks Out at FCT Minister’s Residence

The Minister of State of the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, faced a devastating incident as her private residence in Asokoro was engulfed in flames on Sunday, according to reports from The Punch.

Confirmation of the incident came from the Acting Director of the FCT Fire Service, Amiola Adebayo.

Adebayo revealed that the fire had completely destroyed the first floor of the building.

Reportedly, the fire started around 9:45 am, and despite attempts to contact the Federal Fire Service, the FCT Fire Service responders were the first to arrive on the scene following a running call.

A running call indicates that instead of directly contacting the Fire Service Emergency line, individuals attempted to physically reach the fire station to alert the firefighters.

“The fire was noticed just before ten o’clock, perhaps around 9:45 am. We received a running call approximately thirteen minutes after ten, and we promptly followed the informant to the location of the fire.

“Upon arrival, we found the fire had consumed the entire upper floor. We focused on preventing the fire from spreading to the ground floor and neighboring buildings. Fortunately, there were no casualties,” he explained.

At the time of reporting, the cause of the fire remained unknown. The minister’s media assistant, Austin Elemue, also verified the incident.
